Subtext overview
Subtext is a caption editor that lives inside Adobe Premiere Pro. Cleaning up captions is the worst part of the edit — auto-generated SRTs come out with lines broken in the wrong places, words that need fixing, and timing you can only check by scrubbing back and forth. Premiere’s built-in caption workflow makes every small fix a chore.
Subtext fixes that. Import any SRT, VTT, or CSV, refine the cut and the wording right in the panel, and push the finished captions back into your Premiere project — without ever leaving Premiere.
The workflow
Section titled “The workflow”- Import an SRT, VTT, or CSV — from a file, a whole folder, or dragged straight from Premiere’s Project panel.
- Edit word-by-word: fix wording, split and merge lines, add and delete captions.
- Clean up the whole file in one pass — gaps, line breaks, punctuation.
- Review & search with flags, notes, and Find & Replace.
- Export or push back into your Premiere project, or out as an SRT file.
Work is auto-saved continuously — close the panel mid-edit and pick up exactly where you left off.
Requirements
Section titled “Requirements”- Windows or macOS.
- Premiere Pro 2023–2026 (CEP panel, v23.0+). Tested on Premiere Pro 2026.
